Volkswagen's newest commercial "Toss" is an epically funny display of a father and his son playing a game of baseball toss. Created by ad agency Deutsch, L.A. the ad features a father and his son playing catch in the front yard (the 2013 Passat in the background of course) but this dad is just horrible at throwing a ball....Pass on something he will be grateful for.

  2. The "dad" is my roommate and good friend from college. I just called him today when i saw the add.....hilarious. He really isn't that uncoordinated.

  3. How many howls would erupt if it was the boy's mother throwing like a girl?

  4. How much does he get paid to act like that?

  5. I love it. I get a good laugh every time I watch. He throws like I do. (I'm a girl, by the way.)

  6. Great ad! Well scripted, the father plays it perfectly; the fact their catching is even worse than throwing is clever! Very nice!!

  7. Honestly I thought the point was that the dad was teaching the boy to throw that way to protect his car from the ball. Either way I think the ad is funny. A dad spending quality time with his son is never stupid (as I've seen posted elsewhere).

  8. Wow, excellent blog as well as excellent topic that I love most. I am a huge fan of baseball and I just made a baseball team at my university. I also ordered baseball accessories from at PIJ. I hope I will get this in a week. Thanks for your important write up.

  9. This ad is horrible. Three images prevail: the boy, the dad and then the car. The boy throws like he's never had a ball in hand before. The dad throws just as badly and he is supposedly the "teacher". And then the car. The car is automatically equated with the two losers we've just seen. Bad visual, bad connection, bad ad.

  11. This is a wonderful spot, because it shows a family playing together. It doesn't matter if they both are somewhat throwing/catching challenged, that's what's humorous. Not all dads are jocks, not all children are jocks, the skill level isn't what's important, it's the togetherness & this spot proves that.

  12. I saw it as yet one more example of the feminization of society. I can't watch it when it comes on. Find it totally embarrassing.
